POSITION: Librarian-Reference
SALARY: Salary $56,531. Excellent benefits package. Consideration of applications begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Librarian-Reference will provide information, research and reference services in traditional and virtual formats. Will also plan, teach and assess information literacy instruction in collaboration with faculty. Develops web and print based materials. Services as a liaison to academic departments and provides research services and scholarly assistance to the College community.
This is professional library work requiring technical skills and knowledge in the field of library science. Work involves responsibility for the application of professional library principles and procedures to specialized library operations. Work may include one or more of the following: training personnel; assisting customers with research; evaluating and selecting materials; developing and providing library services for children and adults; copy cataloging library materials; developing collections and acting as a resource specialist; troubleshooting computer software and equipment problems. Independent judgment is exercised in the overall development of the collection. Guide patrons in using artificial intelligence research tools, Large Language Models (LLMs), and synthetic research techniques. Will assess new AI platforms for bias, data privacy, and overall utility in research and teach best practices of using AI in research. This position is exempt with regard to FLSA overtime. This position is covered by the NSCPA negotiated agreement.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution at the time of application. Experience working in a professional library position and knowledge of the role of the library as an educational and information agency is preferred as well as knowledge of the current practices and issues of librarianship such as censorship, right to privacy and freedom of information and the theories of creating, collecting, organizing, accessing and preserving information for use. The successful candidate will have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, and to deal with the general public in a tactful and courteous manner, and the ability to work independently and initiate and see projects through to completion.
