As a librarian and a member of our team, you will be responsible for providing mission-driven, exceptional customer service and engaging with our communities in a way that advances literacy, guides learning, and inspires curiosity. Your contribution to your community will include:
- Fostering positive relationships and collaborations with community partners
- Enthusiastically engaging with our youth population
- Conducting outreach to schools and community groups
- Providing digital, electronic, and traditional reference services to customers
- Developing programming to meet community wants, needs, and aspirations
- Collaborating with Friends’ groups, volunteers, and civic associations
- Serving in an Acting Library Supervisor capacity as needed
- Facilitating special projects and other duties as assigned
Experience and enthusiasm in working with children and teens is absolutely vital. Candidates who are fluent in Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, Russian, Vietnamese, Khmer, Korean, French, Haitian-Creole, or American Sign Language (ASL) are encouraged to apply. Requirements
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR ASSIGNMENTS IN THE GENERAL SPECIALTY
NOTE: Preferred Qualifications for all assignments are in addition to the fifth year degree in library science from an accredited college or university.
Adult Literacy Assignment
Preferred Education: Completion of a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited college or university in Education OR Certificate in English as a Second Language (ESL) Instruction.
OR
Preferred Experience: Documented experience as an adult literacy tutor equivalent to one year.
Consumer Health Information Services Assignment
Preferred Education: Completion of a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited college or university with major coursework in health sciences or a related field.
OR
Preferred Experience: One year of experience providing health services or health referral services.
Early Childhood Learning and Literacy Assignment
Preferred Education: Completion of a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited college or university with major coursework in elementary education, child psychology, child development or a related field.
Information Technology Assignment
Preferred Education: Completion of a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited college or university with major coursework in information technology management, computer science or a related field.
OR
Preferred Experience: One year of experience which includes the use of relational databases in developing web content, web-based statistical packages, or standard markup language for web platform development.
Senior Citizen Services Assignment
Preferred Education: Completion of a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited college or university in gerontology.
OR
Preferred Experience: One year of full-time experience providing targeted library, health, social service or information and referral services to senior citizens.
