Description
Rowland Medical Library at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is seeking applications from exceptional candidates to lead its collection and scholarly resources team. The Head of Collections & Scholarly Resource Strategies is responsible for managing the selection, acquisition, cataloging, and assessment of resources in all formats, collaborating with the Library Director to manage the annual materials budget and information resources expenditures, working with publishers and vendors to negotiate electronic resource licenses and contracts, managing database subscriptions, and resolving connectivity issues as needed. This position supervises two FTEs and reports to the Library Director.
Responsibilities:
- Manages and executes all collections and electronic resources functions, including acquisitions, cataloging, invoice processing, and budgeting
- Manages collection development and selection of library materials in all formats
- Works with the Research and Education department to assess the collection for collection development, deselection, and accreditation needs, and evaluates and recommends new titles, demonstrations, or trial subscriptions for librarian and faculty evaluation
- Collects statistics on resource usage in all formats and generates statistical reports to monitor the use of library resources
- In conjunction with the Library Director, oversees the budget for library materials, tracks expenditures throughout the fiscal year, and performs cost-use analysis of library materials
- Supports the integrated library system, including policy creation and user administration, and serves as the primary technical liaison to the library management system
- Updates knowledge bases, proxy database stanzas, reference linking systems, and discovery interfaces as necessary
- Helps resolve and troubleshoot issues surrounding access to resources and services
- Interfaces with DIS, external vendors, support personnel, and colleagues from other academic institutions on consortia projects and initiatives
- Assists the Library Director in gathering statistics for annual reporting
- Serves on needed committees, both internal and external
- Stays up-to-date on professional developments through participation in professional organizations, system meetings, workshops, and continuing education opportunities
Requirements
Required qualifications:
- ALA-accredited master’s degree or equivalent degree with relevant experience
- 1-2 years of experience working in acquisitions, serials, or e-resources
- Familiarity with reviewing and negotiating license agreements
- Experience implementing or using an electronic resources management system, link resolver, and/or knowledge base
- Experience working with library publishers and vendors
- The ability to balance workload, set priorities, and manage time effectively
- Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively with all levels of library employees and patrons
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred qualifications:
- 1-2 years of supervisory experience
- Demonstrated experience with assessment of resources (usage stats, cost per use, etc.)
- Experience with OCLC WorldShare library management applications
- Experience working with subscription agents for large-scale renewals
- Experience working in an academic health sciences library
