Description
The Business Librarian provides specialized research expertise to students and faculty in the College of Business and related interdisciplinary programs. The position encompasses course-integrated library instruction; the development of library collections responsive to faculty research, curricular needs, and evolving industry practices; the stewardship of government documents collections; consultations with students and faculty; and participation in outreach activities that engage and support the broader Lehigh and surrounding community.
Special Considerations: The duties of this position may allow the employee to work partially remote as deemed appropriate by their supervisor.
Key Accountabilities:
- Serves as the dedicated library liaison to business-related disciplines (including Accounting, Economics, Finance, and Marketing), building strong relationships with faculty to align library services with course curricula and experiential learning environments.
- Provides expert, consultative guidance to researchers on finding and analyzing market, industry, financial, and economic data, while offering critical support for data management, publishing options, and research impact dissemination.
- Designs and delivers course-integrated library instruction—via both synchronous classes and asynchronous tutorials—and creates digital learning materials to help diverse users discover, evaluate, and interpret business data.
- Evaluates usage metrics, database trials, faculty publishing trends, and student coursework needs to strategically select and propose new datasets, analytical tools, journals, and electronic business resources that align with research and curricular goals.
- Tracks and communicates emerging developments in business information dissemination to stakeholders, staying ahead of trends in industry data, financial reporting platforms, and evolving access models for proprietary business resources.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) by managing compliance, monitoring program updates, and overseeing the retention, maintenance, and deaccessioning of the government documents collection.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal and external partners to integrate library services across campus, with a strategic focus on supporting business and entrepreneurial activities.
- Plans, executes, and evaluates engaging co-curricular programs—such as orientations and seminars—while creating targeted marketing materials to promote library collections, programs, and services.
- Stays current with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in academic libraries, higher education, and business research, actively sharing new insights with various campus communities and stakeholders.
- Participates in staff programming across the library, STEM, and university levels, while engaging in educational initiatives to champion the library's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusive excellence, and belonging.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Library and Information Science
- Three to five years of related work experience
- Demonstrated experience delivering information literacy instruction in an academic setting
- Experience with subject-based collection development and assessment
- Familiarity with federal depository library programs and government documents management
- Proven ability to build relationships across faculty, students, and professional staff at an institution like Lehigh
