Victoria Public Library
Company Overview
Victoria Public Library serves both the city and county of Victoria, Texas from a single location. The library is a department of the City of Victoria and is governed by the Victoria City Council. The library also has an 11 member Advisory Board which assists in strategic planning, budget and policy review and an active Friends of the Library group. VPL is funded by property taxes and receives additional support for materials and programming through the Friends of VPL.
The current library building is located in historic downtown Victoria and was opened to the public in 1975. The City of Victoria assumed ownership of the library in 1971. Previous to that time the library was funded and administered by the Bronte Club, a local women’s club. The Bronte Club continues to provide grants to the library and holds one position on the Library Advisory Board.
The library was renovated and updated in 2008 and continues to receive annual updates and improvements to both the interior and exterior of the building. It is one of the most used city municipal buildings and has received support in the last few years for continued improvements.
Our library staff are professional and customer focused with a focus on our core values of communication, teamwork, quality, integrity, charity and innovation. We strive to meet the needs of our community and are currently working to achieve the goals of our strategic plan. Beyond traditional library services, we maintain a Facebook site, offer e-books, 24/7 digital resources through our website and outreach programs through local daycares, schools and other sites in the community.
The staff and administration continually seek creative ways to meet the diverse needs of our community
