Ohio University Libraries is a member of the Association of Research Libraries, the Center for Research Libraries, and OhioLINK. The Libraries employ sixteen subject librarians with academic department liaison responsibilities, including collection development and instruction. The Reference Department team is made up of engaged and diverse staff with a commitment to embracing new technology as a means to enhance reference and user services. The Learning Commons, one of the first of its kind and one of the most popular destinations on campus, is a technology-rich, user-centered, collaborative learning environment where help in the form of writing tutors, technology assistants and reference librarians are all available in a one-stop student service floor. The Libraries are beginning a multi-year renovation project that will build upon our strong traditions of academic, research, and service excellence, and will reshape our service, facilities, and collections for the future. Established in 1804, Ohio University is a comprehensive, state-assisted institution classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a Research University (high research activity). The University, located in the scenic foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, in the city of Athens, a culturally-rich sustainable community 75 miles southeast of Columbus and 156 miles east of Cincinnati.
