The Walter E. Helmke Library
The Helmke Library and Learning Commons sits at the heart of the IPFW campus. The library employs 11 librarians and 16 support staff. The library’s collection budget, which includes interest income from a library endowment fund, is over $1 million dollars. The library plays an active role on campus partnering with faculty for information literacy teaching, collaborating with academic and student affairs units to promote library services and resources for student academic success and providing expertise in digital collection building, scholarly communication, open access, and copyright.
During 2016, the 44-year old building is undergoing an $11 million infrastructure and architectural renovation. The renovation, to be completed by January 2017, includes the addition of group study rooms, a quiet study/reading room, a high-end computer lab, a media wall, and new furnishings. Learning Commons partners from CASA , ITS, the IPFW Honors Program and Studio M will have space in the 2nd floor Learning Commons.
