SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Youth Services Supervisor is responsible for reference and information service for the children’s and young adults areas, materials selection for children’s and young adult areas, circulation services, community engagement and leads one of the two program teams. The position is a member of the Management Team, leader of a staff team and will serve as a Supervisor in Charge as scheduled.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Oversees a team to provide library services and program to birth – young adults, and parents. This includes:
Scheduling and training of library staff.
Plans, coordinates, promotes and presents weekly early childhood developmental programs for young children (for example: Mother Goose on the Loose, Preschool Storytime and out of school programs)
Plans, coordinates, promotes and oversee reading and learning programs for children and youth
Oversees a team to plan and provide general/family library programing for select months.
Coordinates with library staff, city departments and/or other agencies to plan, provide and implement library programs, special events, and intergenerational and inclusive programming.
Seeks and promotes engagement with community agencies and organizations.
Oversees the circulation services and staff for the library.
Regularly provides direct service to patrons at the youth reference desk.
Works closely with the Roswell City IT Department to manage the library computers and equipment.
Recommend library website updates with the City’s webmaster.
Coordinated the creation of pathfinders, reading lists, displays, exhibits and bulletin boards with Adult Services Supervisor
Directly selects and weeds a majority of the materials in the children’s collection as well as overseeing library staff on selecting and weeding young adult collection (print, non-print, electronic and online collection).
Maintains effective public relations
Regularly serves as Supervisor in Charge.
Recommends the employment, promotion and retention of employees with the library division.
Submits monthly library division reports to Library Director.
Participates in the preparation of the annual Roswell Public Library budget.
Serves as the Roswell Public Library representative on various committees and workgroups.
Communicates effectively with staff and the public.
Models excellent customer services practices.
Assists with library security; checks to assure patrons comply with policies and procedures.
Contributes to the Management Team by suggesting areas of improvement, innovation and training
Maintains harmonious, courteous and understanding relationships, while fostering a collaborative teamwork environment in the Roswell Public Library.
Applies Roswell Public Library policies and procedures.
Applies City of Roswell policies and procedures.
Supports the relationship between the City of Roswell and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
Master’s Degree in Library Service from an ALA-accredited school
3-5 years of experience in a public library OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of:
City policies and procedures.
Regulations and standards governing public library operations.
Public library programs, policies, and procedures.
Child and Youth Development.
Current library automation trends and experience in implementation of developing technologies.
Reference and reading advisory, resources and practices.
Collection development and management.
Cataloging and processing procedures.
Dewey Decimal System.
Basic computer functions.
Basic database administration rules and procedures.
Safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards, and safety precautions in public facilities.
Skill in:
Delivering quality library programs and services to the community.
Selection and maintenance of library collections.
Applying library research methods and practices
Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
Operating a personal computer and specialized software and equipment (for example, printers, facsimile, telephones, mobile devices, iPad, Kindle).
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and local agencies.
Effective verbal and written communication.
Ability to acquire a thorough knowledge of Library activities.
Desirable Special Qualifications:
Experience with circulation systems
Bilingual in English and Spanish
