Collection Strategies Librarian

Kent State University Libraries seeks a knowledgeable, collaborative and innovative librarian to lead our general collection development and management operations. This position will be key to creating and sustaining an environment of evidence-based acquisition and will seek a broad representation of ideas using new mediums and technologies to assess and provide point-of-need access to the collection. This position is responsible for the fiscal planning, reporting, and management of the Libraries’ $4.5 million general collections budget. This will be a 12-month tenure-track faculty position reporting to the Assistant Dean for Collections and Technology. Required Qualifications:

  • MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program or other relevant graduate degree as deemed appropriate by the Libraries
  • Minimum of three years’ relevant experience in a major academic or research library in content acquisition, management, and assessment or equivalent comparable experience
  • Experience with library collection development, management, and budgeting
  • Knowledge of current, evolving, and innovative models of collection development
  • Strong data analysis skills, ability to gather, assess, interpret, and present quantitative and qualitative data for varied audiences
  • Experience working in or with a large academic consortium
  • Experience with creating collection development and management policies and strategies
  • Familiarity with licensing electronic resource practices
  • Potential to satisfy the requirements for tenure track faculty reappointment, tenure and promotion
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of working to build and support collections which serve diverse populations
  • Record of scholarship
  • Experience using the acquisition functions of an ILS system to make informed collections related decision
  • Experience managing electronic resource acquisition and management
  • High level of proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Tableau and other software applications to manage and present data
  • Track-record showing ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to adapt to technological and/or organizational change
