Description

The Associate Director of Collection and Resource Services provides vision and expertise in the management, organization, and lifecycle of Georgia College's electronic and print resource collections. The Associate Director is responsible for continuing resources management, including identifying and resolving problems relating to complex electronic serials, databases, and subscriptions. The Associate Director manages issues related to licensing with a familiarity for how and for whom an organization licenses content, as well as the concepts, implications, and contract language pertaining to such issues as archival rights, perpetual access, and interlibrary loan. The Associate Director maintains current high-level working knowledge of processing of print and electronic resources; identifies, evaluates, and stays current with emerging trends, resources, practices, and standards in electronic resource management, usage statistics, data management, access, and discovery to enhance library services.

This 12-month position requires an ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library Science, with the experience and documented achievements appropriate for consideration of a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.

Educational Requirements

  • ALA-accredited Master of Library Science degree

Other Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of cataloging standards, practices, and authority control
  • Working knowledge of metadata standards such as Dublin Core, METS, or MODS
  • Working knowledge of and experience with an institutional repository, open education resources, and copyright
  • Demonstrated exceptional written and oral communication skills; ability to present complex information to diverse user groups.

Required Experience
Three years of demonstrated experience:

  • Leading projects, committees, workgroups, etc.
  • Working collaboratively with other library departments on services such as interlibrary loan and course reserves
  • Providing supervision to departmental employees, including hiring, training, coaching, and evaluating
  • Managing electronic serials, databases, and subscriptions
  • Working with access and identity management or proxy server tools (e.g., OpenAthens, EZProxy)
  • Working with an integrated library system (ILS) in a shared environment
  • Working with vendors of print and electronic resources
  • Planning and administering library budgets
  • Training or informing end-users or decision-makers in using or understanding library resources
  • Participating in library projects, such as large-scale weeding or collection analysis projects
  • Providing reference and/or information literacy instruction to students
  • Working with individuals from diverse backgrounds

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of demonstrated experience supervising professional librarians and library staff, managing electronic serials, databases, and subscriptions, working with an integrated library system (ILS), working with vendors of print and electronic resources, managing library budget, training or informing end-users or decision-makers in using or understanding library resources, participating in library projects, such as large-scale weeding or collection analysis projects
  • Experience using the ExLibris Alma Integrated Library System
  • Experience working in a consortial library
  • Experience using the Bepress Digital Commons Institutional Repository
  • Knowledge of and experience with Open Educational Resources
  • Experience conducting workflow analyses
  • Experience providing information literacy instruction to students and faculty
