Emerging Technologies/Online Learning Librarian

The Loyola Notre Dame Library is seeking an Emerging Technologies/Online Learning Librarian to join the Research & Instruction team. The successful candidate will have a passion for technology, excitement for experimentation with emerging technologies, an interest in teaching, and the ability to work in a team-based environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting users with the identification, evaluation, and use of emerging technologies in the creation of a variety of media-rich projects.
  • Track trends, investigate new developments and applications, and incorporate appropriate technologies into the library environment to improve library services and access to information. 
  • Work closely with the Instruction Librarians and faculty to build online instructional content that can be used both with learners who are located on campus and off campus.
  • Provide instruction to off-site students.
  • Work closely with other units on the two campuses (Loyola University of Maryland and Notre Dame of Maryland University), including technology services and online program support, to integrate library materials with course management software.
  • Provide general reference service (some evenings and weekends required).
  • Participate in the library instruction program.
  • Act as a liaison to one or more departments, performing collection development and outreach to faculty.
  • Participate in other departmental and library-wide initiatives.


The ideal candidate will have an ALA-accredited master’s degree, strong interpersonal skills and a passion for working with students and faculty. Some instruction experience is preferred, and familiarity with course management software, video tutorial editing, experience with video conferencing software for online education, and grounding in online learning theory will be favorably viewed. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in open-source technologies, web design, or instructional design.

The Loyola Notre Dame Library provides information services and resources to support the academic programs and educational concerns of Loyola University Maryland and Notre Dame of Maryland University, comprehensive-level universities located adjacent to each other in a residential area of northern Baltimore City.
