The McGill Library seeks an innovative, collaborative and resourceful librarian to assist in a range activities related to access of electronic resources to ensure the effective support of teaching, learning, research and outreach activities of the Library at McGill University.

McGill Library has the largest collection in Quebec and is one of Canada’s largest academic libraries with over 6 million monographs and 80,000 online serials and databases. The library is a member of the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL), the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), the Bureau de coopération interuniversitaire (BCI, formerly CRÉPUQ), the Center for Research Libraries (CRL), and is the first Canadian member of the HathiTrust Digital Library.

As a tenured stream appointee, the successful candidate is expected to devote himself or herself to the full range of academic duties as defined in the Regulations Relating to the Employment of Librarian Staff (www.mcgill.ca/secretariat/policies/academic/).
Primary Purpose of Position
To assist in a range activities related to access of electronic resources to ensure the effective support of teaching, learning, research and outreach activities of the Library at McGill University.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ensure effective, timely and appropriate intellectual access is provided to electronic resources and serials.
Ensure efficient and cost-effective work processes, workflows and functions for the processing of library collections are in place, reviewing them regularly.
Ensure appropriate statistics, reporting and performance measures are in place and monitored on a regular basis, benchmarking against others as appropriate, seeking to remedy any gaps in performance identified.
Within group provide leadership in the application of tools related to electronic resource management, cataloguing standards, policies and procedures ensuring user needs are met, sharing expertise as appropriate.
Balance activities in area related to electronic resources, their access, licensing issues and other tasks.
Liaise with library vendors and suppliers, including such organizations as CRKN, BCI and OCLC, to ensure efficient and effective access and management of records for library materials in cooperation with the Coordinator, E-Resources and Serials and the Associate Dean, Collection Services.
Assist in the administration of new and existing licensing for electronic resources, reviewing and resolving contract issues. Monitor subscriptions in relation to existing license expirations and renewals, and review the impact of current licensing. Ensure the registration and activation of electronic subscriptions and troubleshoot e-access problems reported by clients.
Lead and manage library assistants and other staff in a group within Collection Services as required.
Participate in the deployment, development, training and performance management of library staff as required in cooperation with the Coordinator, eResources and Serials and the Associate Dean, Collection Services.
Maintain an in-depth knowledge of various in-house and external library systems related to electronic resources and cataloguing.
Ensure effective communication about electronic resources, maintaining appropriate documentation including the website and blog, liaising with Head Librarians, Liaison Librarians and other library staff as required, taking particular responsibility for areas related to electronic resources.
Participate in the promotion and marketing of the Library's collections.
Work in partnership with other Library staff and sections, as well as external groups, on specific projects, leading such projects where necessary.
Ensure appropriate communication within team and between teams across the Library by holding meetings as appropriate.
Attend various meetings and participate in committees within the Library, the University and externally, representing the Library and the University as required.
The position reports to the Coordinator, eResources and Serials.
