Collections & Technical Services Administrator

The Arlington Public Library, a department of the City of Arlington, TX (pop. 375,438), is seeking an innovative and results-oriented Collections & Technical Services (CTS) Administrator to join the leadership team of the library.

Located in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, the Arlington Public Library has a Central Library and 6 branch libraries and is in the process of designing an exciting new Central Library facility, projected to open in 2017.  This position is responsible for the functional areas of collection development, acquisitions, cataloging, processing, virtual library services, ILS administration, public computing and technology planning, as well as being involved in enterprise wide planning and analysis tasks in concert with other members of the leadership team.

The desired candidate should be well known for the use of innovative thinking and creative methods and must be action-oriented, as well as open to change and growth.  While a broad understanding of technology is required, this position does not require “hands-on” technology experience.  An MLS and three years of prior professional library experience are required.

The Arlington Public Library offers a progressive and creative environment for self-directed librarians who are interested in building and sustaining strong community partnerships and planning and implementing unique programs of service that meet community needs. We are seeking librarians who are adaptable to change, motivated by innovation, passionate about the impact libraries have on individuals, families, and communities and who don’t want a career spent sitting at a service desk. All of our librarians, regardless of their supervisory classification, are project managers, service and program designers, technology geeks, marketers, educators and mentors.

The City of Arlington offers affordable housing and diverse entertainment options, as well as outstanding K-12 education opportunities and a variety of institutions of higher education, most notably, the University of Texas at Arlington.  One of the City Council priorities involves Supporting Quality Education and the library takes a strong leadership role in this area, partnering effectively with local school districts and higher education institutions as well as with neighboring libraries.
